How COULD They?!!

Some days it is SO HARD to imagine how someone could be so blind…

Until the blinders fall from my eyes and I realize how easily it happens.

A crowd hears that Jesus the Nazarene is coming.

They lay palm branches at His feet.

Straining to catch a glimpse of THE MAN.

The one everyone is talking about.  The miracle worker.  The prophet.  The promised One?

Palm Branches befitting royalty.

Only days later…

And mockery.

Hail, King of the Jews!

and there’s no glory in this moment–just heartbreak–as this same crowd shouts a different tune…

Crucify Him!”

And His heart breaks.

How COULD they?

Palm Sunday

How could WE?

We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God’s likeness.  These praises and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen.  Do good water and bad water flow from the same spring?  Of course not.” James 3:9-11

Worship on Sunday.

Then another day–or maybe even the very same day–

Blaspheme His Bride–THE CHURCH

Criticize His Creation.

Discourage His Called ones.

And His heart must break.

Pain greater than nails.

We mock Him in our words and our actions.

And the palm branches mean nothing.

Walking unworthy, our worship means nothing.

An idle tune that fills our head but doesn’t change our heart.

There is so much at stake.

Stakes as high as eternity is long.

But suppose you are all prophesying and someone comes in who does not believe or who is without understanding. Their sin will be shown to them, and they will be judged by everything you say.  The secret things in their heart will be made known. So they will bow down and worship God. They will say, “Without a doubt, God is here with you.”

So, brothers and sisters, what should you do? When you meet together, one person has a song, another has a teaching, and another has a new truth from God. One person speaks in a different language, and another interprets that language. The purpose of whatever you do should be to help everyone grow stronger in faith.         1 Corinthians 14:24-26

Let’s lift a different palm.

Open hands that say, “Lord Jesus come.”  Take away the filth and the guilt and replace it with an olive branch.

And give me the grace to offer the same olive branch to those who wound me.

Thank you, Jesus, for reminding me today to worship you in SPIRIT and in TRUTH.

Amen. signature
