The Key to Letting Go

Life has a way of changing how you see things, but the issue of surrender stays the same. When God asks you to surrender, what is the key to letting go?


Our brother and sister-in-law lost everything in Hurricane Harvey. They didn’t have a choice–they had to let go of their earthly possessions, but their faith in God could never be washed away! We are trying to help them as they search for a way to begin again. Insurance did not cover flooding, so please pray for them to find housing in Houston, where thousands are clamoring for a place to live. Pray for their ministry at FBC Houston, where Don is a Minister to Singles and Denise works for Pastoral Care Ministries. “This really feels weird… no keys. This is the first time in a very long time that I don’t have any keys in my pocket!”

My son-in-law had arrived at our home after turning in the keys to their temporary living quarters.  Just days before they sold the only car they owned.  For the next two weeks they will shop, prepare, pack and sort through the few belongings they have left. No home. No car. No keys.

It has to be a strange feeling, since so many of the “things” of this life are tied to keys:
