Walking in Sunlight

Hymns are a part of my story.  I can remember songs from my past where I don’t remember many sermons.  I can still remember songs from my childhood that I know I haven’t sung for decades, but the words still come…

Walking in sunlight all of my journey,
over the mountains, through the deep vale;
Jesus has said, “I’ll never forsake thee,”
promise divine that never can fail.

Heavenly sunlight, heavenly sunlight,
flooding my soul with glory divine;
hallelujah, I am rejoicing,
singing His praises, Jesus is mine

This old hymn, written in 1899 has a peppy tune that just seems appropriate when the sky is bright blue and the sun is shining on my face, or when I am going through a “deep vale” or valley and need to look up!

David’s Psalm says it like this,

“Lord, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments, like the deepest sea. Lord, You preserve man and beast. God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They are filled from the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, for with You is life’s fountain.

In Your light we will see light.”  Psalm 36: 5-9

The power of music to shape a mind, a heart, a life says a lot about why the Book of Psalms is in the Bible.  God loves to hear the praises of His people!

How many times to you get a song stuck in your head and you wake in the middle of the night with your mind going right back to it?  It happens so often for me that I have chosen to embrace it and trust that God is honored even by the repetitive nature of my mind and that He using the words of the song to speak to me as well…

“Sing them over again to me,
wonderful words of life;
let me more of their beauty see,
wonderful words of life;
words of life and beauty,
teach me faith and duty:

Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life;
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.”

So, what’s the song that’s been stuck in your head lately?

(Thanks for reminding you?) You’re welcome!
