What’s Love Got To Do With It?

“What’s love got to do with it, got to do with it…”

“What’s love, but a second-hand emotion…”

You’re welcome.  Get that stuck in your head.   Sing it all day and wake up with it on your brain at 3 a.m.

And let it sink in deep..…all the way down to your heart.

Because love has everything to do with it.

The song we remember Tina Turner singing doesn’t teach us correct theology, but the question can be answered when pondering the cross and the resurrection, and the question that so many still ask:

“Why did Jesus have to die?”

The age-old question is found the ages old pages of the Bible.  If you read it you will see that there is only one logical conclusion:

For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”  John 3:16-17

“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8

We can question how Judas could betray him or Pilate could allow his sentencing.  We could ask, “How could those soldiers mock and torture and execute an innocent man?”.  The real question is, “Why didn’t He stop them?”.  He had the power of life and death in His hands, yet there was no arguing, no denying, no fighting against them.  He willingly carried that cross knowing it would be His final act of love.  An act of surrender to God’s plan for sinful man.

“Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”  Matthew 26:39

Despite the evidence, there will always be those who question His deity.  His authority.  His purpose.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”  Luke 19:10

…But for the one who has believed and has surrendered their life to Him,

He is HOPE.

And He is LIFE.

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live.  Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”   “Yes, Lord,” she told Him, “I believe You are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world.”  John 11:25-27

LOVE has everything to do with it.

“This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us.”  1 John 3:16

  1. Beautifully written. If God didn’t love us He wouldn’t have sent His Son to pay for our sins. It’s a beautifully sad story that makes me ever so grateful! They had a plan all along, and it was to save us. Why? Because He loves us! 🙂
