Sunday’s Song

 “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  2 Peter 1:5-8

Songs have been influential in my life since childhood. Sometimes the words escape me–other times they haunt me, speaking straight to my heart.  The question for me is not one of style or as some may argue, of substance–but of faith.  Am I trusting that God can use all good things for His glory and for my spiritual growth?  Whether it is an old hymn, a catchy chorus, or purely instrumental, if it turns my thoughts and my heart toward Him, then it is a good thing.

Even if it is just a song that a bird is singing out my window.

Make Me a Blessing

Out in the high-ways and by-ways of life,
Many are weary and sad;
Carry the sunshine where darkness is rife,
Making the sorrowing glad.

CHORUS:
Make me a blessing, Make me a blessing —
Out of my life May Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today.

Tell the sweet story of Christ and His love,
Tell of His power to forgive;
Others will trust Him if only you prove
True, every moment you live.
_______________________
Give as ’twas given to you in your need,
Love as the Master loved you;
Be to the helpless a helper indeed,
Unto your mission be true.
