About Me

Doug and Vickie

Hello! Welcome to wateringcanblog!  I am thrilled and honored that you stopped by my little corner of the world today.  I am just a simple girl with a simple message:  Faith matters!  I am a stay-at-home pastor’s wife whose children are grown:  Three of them married.  I am Nana to twelve beautiful grandchildren–two of them born while their parents were missionaries in Madagascar.   We were blessed with three through foster care and adoption.   I am very passionate about my faith and my family and you will find me writing about both of those things often.  Being an empty nester, I also talk about navigating this season of life and how my faith impacts every decision, every direction I take.  God has blessed me with an incredible man to walk beside me, my high-school sweetheart, best friend, and  husband for 39 years.

Why “wateringcanblog”?  In the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah, God reminds us true religion is based on following Him and when we focus on others instead of ourselves, He will guide and and provide just what we need.

“I will always show you where to go.  I will give you a full life in the emptiest of places.  You will be like a well-watered garden, a gurgling spring that never runs dry.”  Isaiah 58:11, [MSG]

My prayer is that I would encourage and inspire you by telling my story– and how God’s story has impacted my journey as a wife, mom, Nana, friend, and child of God.  My greatest joy was–and still is, providing my family with a loving, happy place to come home to at the end of the day.

So, stick around a bit and you will see pieces of my heart–from scripture to do-it-yourself ideas.  I love being with my family, my church family, seeing new places, reading, photography, creating beautiful things, birding, flowers and warm weather!  In everything I do and wherever I go, I long for others to see Jesus in me.

  1. Thank you for sharing your beautiful posts. My mother recently passed and our family was looking at ideas to put on our mothers grave. I used one of your quotes as a start and made it work for our dear mother. Unselfishly devoted to Serving others.

  2. My niece & family live in O’Fallon- brought up in a southern baptist church but have deviated from her roots-her daughter is in the 8th grade & is eager for the Gospel- from others besides me! I have encouraged attendance & even “googled” programs at 1st Baptist O’Fallon- as I was reading your article in “The Baptist Record” it seems like we made a connection- please pray for my family- I will send info if you have a visitation program.

  4. Hey there Newbie Spikey!
(for your info, a Spikey is the term for folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.

I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…

  12. Ms. Vickie thank you for the insight into your heart and life. So often we see our pastor’s wife in passing and rarely get to know her and in reading and following your blog I am hoping that I will be inspired to be all I can be to my family and our not born grandson. I am looking forward to being the first one to tell him that Jesus loves him.
